DSW™ Dual-Stage Waveguide

Smoother highs, a more even soundfield.
DSW™ Dual-Stage Waveguide
How it works

The SOVOX Dual-Stage Waveguide™ panel uses an innovative two-stage geometry to optimise acoustic loading and wavefront expansion, giving the high frequencies smoother extension and more uniform directivity. The structure shapes treble output precisely while eliminating the directivity discontinuities of conventional designs — for a presentation that stays stable and natural well off axis.

Two stages, two jobs

The Dual-Stage Waveguide™ splits the work a waveguide has to do into two geometric stages. The first stage, closest to the driver, manages acoustic loading — matching the driver’s output to the air so the transition from the throat is smooth and efficiency is preserved. The second stage controls how the wavefront expands into the room, setting the coverage angle and keeping directivity consistent through the working band. Handling loading and expansion separately means neither is compromised: a single-profile waveguide must trade one against the other, which is where the response dips and off-axis discontinuities of conventional designs come from.

Uniform directivity in practice

A loudspeaker’s off-axis output does not just affect people sitting to the side — it is what the room reflects back to every listener. When directivity is uniform, the reflected sound shares the spectrum of the direct sound, so the speaker keeps its tonal character in real rooms, not just in an anechoic measurement. The Dual-Stage Waveguide™ keeps tonal balance consistent across the listening window rather than at a single sweet spot, and makes the in-room response predictable: what is voiced on the design axis is what the listener actually hears.

Why it matters
01

Two-stage loading

Wavefront expansion is controlled in two steps, keeping response smooth through the transition.

02

Uniform directivity

Consistent tonal balance across the listening window — not just at the sweet spot.

03

No sudden transitions

Eliminates the off-axis discontinuities of conventional designs for stable, natural sound.
