AURORA™ Ribbon Super Tweeter

Beyond the highs, into the detail.
How it works

SOVOX AURORA™ ribbon super tweeters are built around an aluminium ribbon diaphragm engineered for extreme high-frequency extension and transient response. Because the near-massless ribbon is driven directly across its entire surface, AURORA™ responds with exceptional transient speed and detail retrieval — rendering the transparency and air that define true high-frequency reproduction.

How a ribbon driver works

In an AURORA™ ribbon super tweeter, a thin corrugated aluminium ribbon is suspended in a strong magnetic field and the audio current flows through the ribbon itself. The conductor is the diaphragm: there is no voice-coil former, no bobbin and no separate dome between the motor and the air. Drive force is generated directly and uniformly across the ribbon’s surface, and the moving element weighs a fraction of a conventional dome assembly. That near-massless diaphragm can start and stop with the signal, which is what gives ribbons their characteristic transient speed and their smooth output extending beyond the audible band.

What this means for reproduction

Because the ribbon has almost no stored energy, high-frequency detail is released and damped in step with the recording — cymbal decays, room ambience and the leading edges of transients keep their natural shape instead of being smeared by diaphragm ring-down. And because output stays smooth past the limit of hearing rather than peaking and breaking up inside it, the top octave sounds open and unstrained at any level. The result is treble that resolves fine texture without the hardness that listeners associate with conventional high-frequency drivers being pushed to their limits.

AURORA™ Ribbon Super Tweeter
Why it matters
01

Ultra-low moving mass

The ribbon weighs a fraction of a conventional dome — it starts and stops with the signal.

02

Direct drive

The conductor is the diaphragm. No voice-coil former stands between motor and air.

03

Extended response

Smooth output beyond audibility keeps the top octave open and unstrained.
